The atmosphere of Eid in Jakarta has a unique rhythm that never fails to capture attention. While some residents are still enjoying time in their hometowns, those staying in the Jabodetabek area are crowding the heart of the capital. The Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday, or 2026, highlights an interesting trend shift: society is increasingly comfortable switching to public transport. One Central Jakarta resident, Saka (35), said he deliberately chose Transjakarta to go on a family outing to Ragunan in South Jakarta. “Using a rented vehicle is expensive, it can cost hundreds of thousands. So I prefer Transjakarta because it’s more economical and easy,” said Saka in Jakarta on Sunday (22/3/2026). Saka mentioned that using public transport is also more practical because there’s no need to worry about parking at tourist spots, which are usually full during the Eid holiday. “If you take a car, it’s a headache finding a parking spot, not to mention it’s full, long queues, wasting time,” said Saka. Jannah (45), a resident of Ciledug, who came with her family, expressed the same view. She said the cheap transport fare was the main reason for choosing the integrated rapid transit bus system. “Taking Transjakarta only costs around Rp3,500. It’s cheap, so you can holiday without spending a lot, quite economical,” said Jannah. According to her, besides being cheap, travelling by bus is also relatively comfortable and avoids long traffic jams to tourist spots. One of the favourite destinations for residents is Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta, which is always crowded with visitors during the Eid holiday. This area is considered easy to reach using public transport, including Transjakarta with various direct routes to the location. Based on observations, several bus stops heading to Ragunan were crowded with passengers from the morning. Residents appeared to be bringing their families, including children, to enjoy the holiday without having to use private vehicles.
