TAIPEI (AFP): Taiwan's privately-run TransAsia Airways
yesterday launched a commercial route between Taipei and
Surabaya, Indonesia, a company official said.
A 162-seat Airbus A320 passenger jet will serve the route
three times a week, leaving Taipei's international airport on
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and returning the same days, the
official said.
A total of 129 passengers and 14 crew were on board the
inaugural flight, he added.
The opening of direct air link to Surabaya was prompted by an
increasing number of local travelers to Indonesia, he said,
adding that more than 150, 000 Taiwanese visited the Southeast
Asian country last year.
TransAsia is the fourth Taiwan airline company which serves
international routes, following the steps of China Airlines, Eva
Airways Corp., and Mandarin Airlines.
