The number of passengers using the Trans Metro Dewata (TMD) bus service experienced growth throughout 2025 compared to previous years. Bali Transportation Office head I Kadek Mudarta revealed that the average daily passenger count increased by approximately seven per cent, equivalent to nearly 400 additional passengers per day.

“There has been an increase of around seven per cent, so whereas previously there were approximately 4,400 passengers, in 2025 the daily average is around 4,760, if I am not mistaken,” Mudarta said at the Bali Transportation Office on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

Mudarta noted that since the local government assumed management of the TMD bus service, it has experienced positive trends and has become increasingly popular amongst the public. He believes that citizens are beginning to recognise the importance of public transportation.

“Ticket revenue from last year was approximately 3.9 billion rupiah over an eight-month period,” he stated.

Mudarta identified two popular routes with high passenger numbers: corridor one (Terminal Pesiapan to Terminal Ubung) and corridor two (Terminal Ubung to Bandara Ngurah Rai).

The Transportation Office, he continued, is conducting regular evaluations such as adjusting routes to maintain efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, they are adding stopping points to make the service more accessible to the public.

“Possibly not necessarily in the form of bus shelters, but perhaps just pavement markings for now,” he noted.
