Traffic Police Prepares National One Way System at Peak of Lebaran Homecoming Flow on 18 March 2026
The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) Police predicts the peak of Lebaran 2026 homecoming flow will occur on 18 March. The police have prepared various traffic engineering scenarios, including the implementation of a national one-way system to control the surge of vehicles heading towards the Trans Java line.
Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho delivered this prediction during a press conference at the Integrated Post of Operation Ketupat Lodaya 2026 of West Java Police at Rest Area KM 57 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road on the evening of Monday 16 March 2026. So far, police report that approximately 28 per cent of vehicles have departed Jakarta heading east and west.
“We announce that I have coordinated with the Minister and the Director of Jasa Marga. The peak of the homecoming flow is expected on the 18th,” Agus said.
Korlantas estimates approximately 3.5 million vehicles will depart Jakarta towards the Trans Java line to Cikupa, Banten, as well as towards crossing ports bound for Sumatra. Vehicle movements are predicted to continue increasing as most residents have not yet left the capital.
Agus said traffic conditions remain under control despite the increasing volume of vehicles. Police have prepared various traffic engineering scenarios on both expressways and arterial roads in anticipation of a surge in vehicle movements in the coming days.
“The projected 3.5 million vehicles that will leave Jakarta for Trans Java—until now only 28 per cent have departed. That means we still manage almost 72 per cent of vehicle movements,” he said.
Korlantas has divided Operation Ketupat’s security focus into five main clusters. Safeguards include expressways, national arterial roads, crossing ports, places of worship, as well as tourist sites that are expected to be crowded during the homecoming period.
Traffic engineering measures such as contraflow and one-way systems on expressways are being prepared based on traffic accounting data. Work from anywhere (WFA) policies are also being considered to help spread the departure time of travellers so that congestion does not occur on a single day.
Agus stressed that Operation Ketupat is not solely concerned with traffic regulation. The operation is also directed at ensuring public safety during the period of Ramadan, Eid, and Nyepi celebrations.
“Operation Ketupat is a humanitarian operation. Safety, order and smoothness are top priorities,” Kakorlantas said.
