Indonesia’s National Traffic Police Chief Irjen Pol Agus Suryo Nugroho conducted a working visit to inspect the readiness of routes and ports in Lampung and Banten on Thursday, 26 February 2026.

The inspection covered critical junctions ranging from arterial roads leading to ports through to operational ferry crossing zones serving as key nodes in public mobility. During his visit, Agus inspected Bakauheni Port, Wika Raya Beton Jetty, and BBJ Muara Pilu Port.

On the occasion, he stated that service capacity this year has been strengthened with the addition of Sumur Makmur Abadi (SMA) Port, which can accommodate ro-ro vessels and landing craft tanks (LCT) for goods and motorcycle transport. “This year there is the addition of one new port, namely Sumur Makmur Abadi Port. We hope vehicle distribution becomes faster and crossing traffic flows more smoothly,” said Agus.

Ahead of Ramadan 2026, preparations for the nation’s busiest ferry crossing at Merak–Bakauheni are being finalised. In line with these efforts, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is ensuring all operational and maritime safety aspects are optimally prepared.

ASDP Managing Director Heru Widodo explained that operational readiness is being conducted through intensive coordination with BPTD and KSOP, ensuring large-capacity vessel fleets operate optimally during the Ramadan period.

On the Merak–Bakauheni route, 28–33 vessels per day are being deployed; on the Ciwandan–Wika Beton route, 9–12 vessels per day; and on the BBJ Bojonegara–BBJ Muara Pilu route, 10–12 vessels per day.

ASDP is also prepared to implement an Arrive–Unload–Depart operational pattern, whereby docked vessels immediately discharge cargo and return to sea without delay to accelerate vessel rotation and reduce vehicle queuing.

Beyond operations, service improvements are also being implemented through the addition of express jetties, optimisation of the Port Operation Control Centre (POCC) based on real-time monitoring, 24-hour customer service, and additional support facilities such as portable toilets and strengthened port area lighting systems.

Meanwhile, to support smooth exodus traffic flow, ASDP is ready to implement a tariff discount stimulus programme of 100 per cent for port service fees, equivalent to an average of 21.9 per cent of total crossing tariffs. Additionally, single-tariff arrangements will be implemented to equalise regular and express service rates during certain periods, so there is no longer any price difference for service users.

The tariff discount stimulus applies to 14 ports and 7 strategic routes, covering pedestrians as well as Class II and IVA vehicles on regular services, and pedestrians and Class II vehicles on express services. This policy is designed to provide direct benefits to the public during the exodus period.

Meanwhile, the single-tariff policy is being applied specifically at Merak Port from 13 March 2026 at 12:00 WIB until 20 March 2026 at 15:00 WIB, and at Bakauheni Port from 23 March 2026 at 00:00 WIB until 29 March 2026 at 24:00 WIB. This scheme covers pedestrians and vehicles in Classes I, II, III, IVA, VA, and VIA to support more balanced service distribution during peak traffic periods.

Heru urged all service users to purchase tickets independently through the Ferizy application and website or official sales channels, and to ensure they have purchased tickets before departure and arrive at the port according to the schedule stated on their ticket.

He emphasised that personal identification data must be completed accurately when purchasing tickets. Accurate record-keeping is crucial in the ferry service system to ensure passenger and vehicle numbers match vessel capacity and to facilitate emergency response procedures.

“All of these preparations represent an effort to provide more orderly, safe, and controlled Ramadan transport services. ASDP is committed to maintaining inter-island connectivity whilst ensuring public travel is comfortable,” said Heru.
