Jakarta – The Head of the Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Irjen Agus Suryonugroho has reaffirmed that the safety of homebound travellers is the top priority in the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026.

This was stated whilst monitoring the homebound traffic flow from the Command Centre Post at KM 29 Cikampek Toll Road, West Java.

“Our primary focus in Operation Ketupat 2026 is to ensure that every homebound traveller reaches home safely. For us, a single life is invaluable. We are not merely managing statistics, but rather preserving the narrative of longing for millions of families so that it concludes with a smile,” said Agus.

Agus noted that integrated security efforts conducted jointly with all stakeholders have demonstrated positive results.

Based on data, the fatality rate during this year’s homebound period has been reduced by as much as 45 percent compared to the previous period.

From monitoring the traffic counting system, vehicle departures from Jakarta to various regions currently represent only around 25 percent. This means approximately 75 percent, or around 3.2 million homebound travellers, are estimated to depart over the coming days.

“We remain fully prepared to guide this massive wave of population movement to ensure it remains safe and smooth,” he stated.

From the perspective of public order and security, incident reports concerning prominent criminal activity have been recorded as nil, whilst conditions at major transport hubs such as Surabaya Gubeng Station and Purabaya Terminal remain monitored as safe and controlled.

Agus also assessed that the policy restricting three-axle and larger vehicles during the homebound period has proven effective in providing space for private vehicles and passenger transport, allowing traffic flow to remain smooth.

Furthermore, the Traffic Corps has prepared various preventative measures through traffic management engineering based on traffic counting data monitored in real-time.

“Once again, we are here to serve the community. Let us together realise ‘Safe Homecoming, Happy Families’. Safe travels, safe return,” he concluded.
