CIKAMPEK — The Director of Law Enforcement (Dirgakkum) of Korlantas Polri Brigadier Faizal has assured that officers will take firm action against operational violations by three-axle trucks during the mudik exodus period. The police have prepared law enforcement measures ranging from warnings to fines for vehicles operating outside of regulations.

Faizal explained that the surveillance of freight transport vehicles forms part of traffic flow management during the 2026 Ketupat Operation. The enforcement is being conducted to ensure smooth mudik traffic flow and minimise potential traffic disruptions on primary routes.

“Three-axle trucks still in operation have been given a grace period. Starting tomorrow we will take action, whether in the form of warnings or fines,” said Dirgakkum Korlantas when met at the Korlantas Command Centre in Cikampek, West Java, on Monday (16 March 2026).

He acknowledged that heavy vehicles had still been found operating on various routes during the initial mudik period. The police had previously provided a grace period before more stringent enforcement measures were implemented.

Surveillance of freight transport vehicles is also being conducted through vehicle inspection activities at several mudik route checkpoints. These inspections cover vehicle condition and driver readiness.

“Starting Saturday (14 March) we have been conducting checkpoint or ramp check activities at KM 81. The purpose is to anticipate drivers who do not meet driving capability standards, whilst also conducting health checks, providing vitamins, and checking vehicle conditions,” said Faizal.

Inspections are being conducted through cooperation between the police, transportation officials, and the health service. Officers check vehicle conditions to ensure they remain roadworthy whilst also verifying drivers are in optimal physical condition.

Faizal stated that surveillance of freight transport vehicles is an important part of maintaining smooth mudik traffic. Heavy vehicles operating on primary routes can slow the movement of private vehicles that dominate the mudik flow.

Korlantas also monitors the direction of vehicle movement leaving Jakarta. Monitoring data shows that vehicle traffic is still dominated by travel towards eastern regions through the Trans-Java route.

“The majority still head east towards Trans-Java and almost all passing vehicles are dominated by private vehicles,” said Faizal.

He added that some freight transport vehicles are still moving towards ferry ports in western regions. These trucks are recorded heading towards the Merak route to Bakauheni Port.

Korlantas has requested all field officers to intensify surveillance of freight transport vehicles during the mudik period. Enforcement against operational violations is being carried out to maintain smooth travel for mudik participants.

The enforcement measures are expected to reduce potential traffic obstacles on primary routes. The police continue to monitor vehicle flow developments as the peak mudik period approaches.
