Traffic on the Situbondo West functional toll road is now open for the 2026 Lebaran exodus. Over the past several days, the route has experienced a 40.3 per cent increase in vehicle traffic.

“Over the past three days, there has been increased traffic, particularly reaching 40.3 per cent at the entry gate, while the exit gate reached 38 per cent,” said Head of Traffic Operations East Java V Police Unit AKP Roni Faslah in Surabaya on Monday (16 March).

According to official records, approximately 14,600 vehicles have been recorded passing through the route. Despite the increased volume, police have ensured that traffic flow remains smooth.

An interesting phenomenon has emerged due to public enthusiasm to stop and enjoy views around the toll road. “We have implemented various preventative measures, including deploying warning banners and coordinating with the toll operator to position additional security. This ensures public movement can be properly monitored,” said AKP Roni.

During the three-day toll opening, no major incidents occurred. Only a few cases of overheated vehicle radiators were recorded and promptly addressed. Coordination between toll operators, police, and local government has proceeded smoothly to maintain stable traffic flow.

Ahead of the peak of the 2026 mudik on 18 March, police have prepared anticipatory measures. Public outreach has been conducted since 6 March, including notices to travel agents and bus operators.

“We certainly hope that all mudik travellers can journey safely, smoothly, and comfortably,” said Roni.

Additionally, security at scenic locations along the route has been increased. Mobile police personnel are deployed every hour to prevent vehicles from stopping indiscriminately.

Roni also issued advisories to mudik travellers. “Remain cautious and obey traffic regulations. Take advantage of police posts to rest or obtain information, so your journey can be comfortable until you reach your destination. Safe mudik, happy family,” he said.
