Traffic Monitoring During Mudik Period: Bandung-bound Flows Remain Steady
Purwakarta, Kompas.com – Traffic flows heading towards Bandung via toll roads managed by Jasa Marga remained relatively steady through five days before Eid al-Fitr.
From on-site monitoring, traffic on the Cipularang toll road remained busy but flowing smoothly in both directions. There were no significant congestions of the type typically occurring near rest areas or around toll gates.
Based on traffic data at the Kalihurip Utama toll gate, the increase in vehicle numbers has not shown the significant surge typically observed as the mudik exodus approaches its peak.
“For the volume of traffic entering Bandung recorded at the Kalihurip Utama toll gate, from 10 March through 16 March at 06:00, we recorded 157,000 vehicles,” said Agni to Kompas.com (17/3/2026).
According to him, this figure remains lower than normal traffic conditions, although it shows a slight year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, vehicles exiting Bandung through the same toll gate also recorded figures lower than normal conditions.
“For vehicles leaving Bandung or recorded at the Kalihurip Utama toll gate, we recorded 146,900 vehicles. This figure is down 11.3 per cent compared to normal conditions and also down 1.8 per cent compared to 2025,” he said.
“So actually, the traffic volume so far remains quite steady. This is probably because today and tomorrow are still working days, so people are still at work. That is likely why there has not yet been a significant increase in traffic heading towards Bandung,” he added.
However, officials predict that vehicle surges will begin as the joint public holiday period approaches.
Besides the mudik exodus, increased vehicle movement is also expected to be driven by public activity during Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
“There will also be added silaturahmi travelling, where on Eid day the public typically travels to visit relatives or tombs of family members. After that, tourism-related traffic usually follows,” Agni said.
