Jakarta — Indonesia’s Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) is refining traffic management schemes on toll roads during the Eid holiday exodus in 1447 Hijriah/2026, utilising digital technology to ensure smooth travel for the public. Head of Korlantas Irjen Agus Suryonugroho affirmed his unit’s readiness to manage traffic flow on toll roads during peak holiday departure and return periods.

“Korlantas employs digital technology when implementing traffic management engineering, including lane diversions, traffic surveillance, contraflow, national one-way traffic, and so forth,” Agus stated in remarks received in Jakarta on Sunday, 2 March 2026.

The two-star police general explained that contraflow implementation during holiday periods is conducted based on specific parameters to ensure the policy is targeted and effectively facilitates vehicle flow. “Traffic engineering contraflow also has parameters determining how we execute it, enabling us to streamline travel for holiday travellers and manage exodus traffic,” he said.

According to him, one key parameter is the number of vehicles per hour monitored through radar and traffic counting systems. This parameter, he continued, is indicated by radar readings; if vehicle numbers reach 4,500 to 5,000 consistently per hour, single-lane contraflow is implemented. “Similarly, if numbers reach 6,400, we will implement dual-lane contraflow,” he explained.

Additionally, national one-way and partial one-way policies will be implemented based on real-time traffic monitoring updates. “We will implement national one-way or partial one-way traffic in national one-way zones, relying on the latest traffic flow monitoring technology, including precision drones and radar systems operated by toll road operators,” he said.

The corps has also prepared contingencies for when traffic counting indicates extremely high volumes and dual-lane contraflow has already been implemented; national one-way traffic will then be activated. He stressed that when traffic counting reaches sufficiently high levels, including with dual-lane contraflow in place, national one-way traffic will be instituted.

“This is how Korlantas operates using technology and real-time traffic counting updates; we calculate flow and traffic operations using technological methods,” he stated.

Agus emphasised that Korlantas does not merely issue advisories but operates on a data-driven, real-time technological system to guarantee smooth and safe travel for the public during the holiday period. “Korlantas does not simply advise; our results come from systems we have built based on real-time data and technology to ensure smooth holiday travel,” he said.

“The state is present to ensure security against crime and smooth traffic flow,” Agus added.
