Traffic in Front of DPR Building Remains Smooth Ahead of 2026 May Day Action
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The traffic situation on Jalan Gatot Subroto, specifically in front of the DPR/MPR RI complex in Jakarta, was still monitored as smooth on Friday morning (1/5/2026) ahead of the action to commemorate International Labour Day or May Day 2026.
Kompas.com observations at the location around 08:20 WIB showed that vehicles from the Semanggi direction towards Slipi and vice versa could still proceed without significant obstacles.
The vehicle volume was not yet dense, dominated by private cars and motorcycles passing through the main Gatot Subroto lane.
Officers were stationed near the access entrance to the parliamentary building area as well as several security points along the road.
A large blue-themed banner was also installed on the side fence of the DPR building area, reading “Happy Labour Day 2026. Polri, Partner of Labour, Ready to Escort Aspirations and Protection of Workers.”
Meanwhile, on the left side of the main gate area of the DPR building, the atmosphere was still relatively quiet. However, several street vendors began to appear and prepare to sell their goods.
Some vendors were seen carrying simple trading equipment and arranging their items around the sidewalk area.
Previously, Deputy Chief of Metro Jaya Police Brigadier General Pol Dekananto Eko Purwono stated that the number of workers heading to the DPR RI was estimated at around 5,000 people.
He mentioned that the crowd was scheduled to start moving around 10:00 WIB, with the gathering point in front of TVRI before heading to the DPR building.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, said that Metro Jaya Police deployed thousands of combined personnel to secure the May Day 2026 action in the DPR/MPR RI area.
“The number of personnel involved in security around DPR-MPR totals 6,678 personnel,” Budi said during a doorstop in front of the DPR RI building.
Budi advised the public who do not have urgent business to avoid road sections around the DPR area as an increase in vehicle volume is expected.
