Traffic Flow Predicted to Peak on H-3 as Mudik Journey Remains Smooth on Gentong Tasikmalaya National Arterial Route
Homecoming (mudik) traffic along the national arterial route through West Java to Central Java via the upper and lower Gentong bypass, specifically at Letter U Security Post in Kadipaten District, Tasikmalaya Regency, has not yet experienced an increase in volume. The mudik flow from West Java to Central Java or vice versa remains smooth and is predicted to peak H-3 before Eid 1447 Hijrah.
The Head of Traffic at Tasikmalaya City Police Station, AKP Riki Kustiawan, stated that mudik traffic along the national arterial route from West Java to Central Java entering H-6 remained smooth with no volume increases yet recorded. Vehicles travelling via the Gentong route towards Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, and Banjar to Central Java and vice versa from Central Java and Ciamis maintained smooth flow.
“Traffic flow remains smooth and there is no volume increase from West Java via the upper Gentong bypass. However, the increase in vehicle volume is predicted for H-3 before Eid 1447 Hijrah, and personnel at Letter U Security Post in Gentong, Kadipaten remain on standby,” he said after conducting a ramp check at Indihiang Terminal on Monday (16 March 2026).
According to him, the mudik flow originating from Jakarta and Bandung via the upper Gentong bypass towards Tasikmalaya and Ciamis has been predominantly motorcycles and private vehicles, with traffic conditions remaining smooth. However, vehicle volume is predicted to increase on H-3 before Eid via the national arterial route through the upper and lower Letter U PAM Post Gentong bypass.
“Vehicles passing through Letter U Security Post in Gentong bypass include various types of vehicles ranging from buses, cargo trucks, private cars, minibuses and motorcycles. However, I urge homecoming travellers passing through our area not to hesitate to use the post’s service facilities as rest areas, should they experience fatigue,” he said.
According to him, the volume increase is predicted to occur on Wednesday and Thursday (H-3) since vehicle flow remains smooth with no surge currently occurring. Homecoming travellers planning to return to their hometowns are urged to ensure their physical condition is good and optimal before undertaking the journey. However, travellers must check the vehicles they will use for their mudik and ensure they are roadworthy during the journey.
“We urge drivers not to use mobile phones whilst driving and not to hesitate to use rest facilities at service posts should they feel drowsy and need to rest. Traffic officers will continue to manage several points that could cause congestion,” he concluded.
Vehicles still operating and having entered Tasikmalaya area should proceed to parking areas prepared in Rajapolah, Jamanis and Ciawi.
Based on police data, motorcycle accident rates during Eid mudik journeys reach a concerning 75.9 per cent. On Monday (16 March), from 00:00 to 12:00 WIB, approximately 25,000 vehicles passed through Cikopo toll towards Cirebon, lower than the same time on Sunday (15 March).
Ramp checks form part of efforts to enhance transportation safety during the Eid mudik period. On Monday (16 March), the number of homecoming travellers entering Central Java via the Trans Java Toll Road continued to increase since Sunday (15 March), averaging approximately 1,400–1,900 vehicles entering Semarang City. The increase in mudik volume and many travellers running out of e-toll balance caused queuing issues.
