Traffic Corps Chief: Success of Eid Homecoming and Return Traffic is a Collective Effort
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, stated that the success of securing the Eid homecoming and return traffic in 2026 during Operation Ketupat was the result of collective work by all stakeholders. According to him, this success involved all personnel on the ground, from managing and controlling traffic flow, recording vehicle volume parameters, to ensuring security, order, and smooth traffic. “So, the Traffic Corps of the National Police, along with stakeholders, will certainly make decisions on contraflow and one-way systems based on data-driven approaches or traffic counting or parameters on toll roads, including anticipating those on non-toll roads,” said Agus during a discussion held by the Parliament Journalists’ Coordinator in Jakarta on Thursday. He explained that there were five security clusters implemented in Operation Ketupat 2026, namely securing alternative routes or national roads, toll roads and their dynamics, port crossing points, places of worship, and tourist spots. During the homecoming traffic, he noted that the highest homecoming traffic in history occurred, with 270,513 vehicles leaving Jakarta towards Trans-Java, Sumatra, or West Java in one day. The highest return traffic also occurred on 24 March 2026, with 256,318 vehicles. “So, the peak homecoming and return traffic could be managed well. We implemented contraflow, precise segmental one-way, up to national one-way,” he said. In addition, he conveyed that the fatality rate of deaths during the homecoming-return period dropped by around 30 percent compared to the previous year. The accident rate also decreased by 5.31 percent. “This is extraordinary thanks to collaboration, cooperation, and the leadership of the National Police Chief who is always present in the field,” he said. For that reason, he hopes that Operation Ketupat has truly prioritised humanity, through the presence of the National Police to guarantee security from social and spiritual aspects, and to ensure safe and secure journeys to the destination.
