Traffic Congestion at Gilimanuk Port Begins to Ease Ahead of Nyepi
Ahead of Nyepi, traffic congestion at Gilimanuk Port has begun to ease. The Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing route has experienced long queues for several days. According to the Ministry of Transportation, the route to Gilimanuk Port is now starting to clear. It is known that one of the peak times for Eid al-Fitr homecoming travel in 2026 and Nyepi Day occurs on the same day, tomorrow, Thursday, 19 March 2026. Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi explained that based on field monitoring on Wednesday (18/3/2026) at 16:00 WITA, vehicle queues to the port have been successfully cleared. All vehicles are now accommodated in the buffer zone, and ferry services are running smoothly again. “Alhamdulillah, vehicle queues at Gilimanuk are now cleared. This is the result of joint efforts by all stakeholders who quickly handled the situation on the ground,” said Dudy in an official statement on Wednesday (18/3/2026). Dudy explained that measures to accelerate operations to ease congestion included optimising ferry fleets. Currently, 40 ships are operating on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route, with 30 of them implementing a shortened arrive-unload-depart (TBB) system to 15 minutes to speed up loading and unloading processes and reduce port time. In addition, traffic regulation and vehicle distribution management to the port have been strengthened to prevent density from recurring. “We will continue to conduct regular monitoring and evaluation to maintain the controlled conditions, especially ahead of Nyepi Day and the peak Eid homecoming travel,” said Dudy. In line with the Nyepi celebrations, the Ministry of Transportation also announced adjustments to ferry service operations on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route. Ketapang Port will close starting Wednesday, 18 March 2026 at 17:00 WIB and will reopen on Friday, 20 March 2026 at 05:00 WIB. Current conditions at Ketapang Port are reported as smooth with no queues ahead of closure. Ticket sales and passenger activities at Ketapang Port are already empty. Meanwhile, Gilimanuk Port will close starting Thursday, 19 March 2026 at 05:00 WITA and will resume operations on Friday, 20 March 2026 at 06:00 WITA.
