Traffic Chief: National One-Way System Likely to Be Lifted Today
The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Polri, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that the national one-way system for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming traffic has a chance of being halted on Friday (20/3) afternoon, depending on the traffic situation on toll roads.
“The plan to end the national one-way mudik will be evaluated tomorrow morning [Friday]. If there are indeed no signs of traffic resurgence, the flow on the toll roads remains light, including low traffic counts, then we will lift and stop the national one-way mudik. It is likely to be done in the afternoon,” said Agus at Bundaran HI, Jakarta, in the early hours of Friday (20/3), quoted from detik.
Agus said the evaluation is being conducted considering that traffic movement is starting to level off after peaking during the mudik rush on Wednesday (18/3).
According to Agus, if there are no signs of increasing traffic flow, such as low traffic counts on toll roads, the implementation of the national one-way system will be stopped.
“We are collaborating with stakeholders, including the Minister of Transportation, the CEO of Jasa Marga, and we will report to the Chief of Police. The one-way mudik may be lifted by us. The exact time will be announced later,” he said.
The national one-way system was officially implemented on the Trans-Java Toll Road on Wednesday (18/3), starting from KM 70 at the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate, West Java, to KM 414 at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Central Java.
Kakorlantas explained that the peak mudik traffic has passed with 270,000 vehicles passing in one day. There was a 4.2 percent increase in the number of vehicles during the peak mudik compared to last year.
“Secondly, on the toll roads, we know that the peak mudik flow was on the 18th and 19th. So, approximately 270,000 vehicles, this year’s peak flow. Compared to last year, there was an increase of 4.26%,” said Agus.
