The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, has outlined the traffic arrangements for the Lebaran return flow. The one-way system for return traffic heading to Jakarta will commence tomorrow at 14:00 WIB.

“Priority for high traffic volumes is the national one-way return flow, which will be carried out on 24 March at 14:00, with the flag-off directly led by the Police Chief and several attending ministers,” said Inspector General Agus to reporters on Monday (23/3/2026).

Kakorlantas stated that today they have also begun socialisation efforts regarding preparations for the national one-way return flow. The National Police Traffic Corps will implement the national one-way this afternoon at 14:00 WIB from kilometre 263 to kilometre 70 on the Cikampek Main Toll Road.

Inspector General Agus said that vehicles returning to Jakarta at the peak of the return flow tomorrow are predicted to be quite high. This is based on the high number of vehicles leaving Jakarta during this year’s Lebaran peak exodus.

“The peak day saw 270,000 vehicles, so the return flow will naturally be high. Up to now, 43% have already returned to Jakarta, so we will manage it well through traffic engineering mechanisms,” explained Inspector General Agus.

He assured that the National Police Traffic Corps has prepared several traffic policies to ease the flow of vehicles back to Jakarta. However, Kakorlantas also requested that drivers not force their return tomorrow during the one-way return flow.

According to Inspector General Agus, the national one-way return flow policy could be extended until 26 March, depending on traffic conditions on the toll roads.

“So the national one-way return flow is not just on 24 March; we will extend it to 25 March if the traffic generation is high,” said Kakorlantas.

“When the traffic flow is low, we can manage it and possibly lift the restriction. Therefore, (travellers) should not focus on returning on 24 March, as it could lead to build-ups from kilometre 70 towards Jakarta. This is what we must anticipate to ensure smooth flow,” he added.
