Traffic at Merak Port Returns to Normal After Being Congested with Trucks
Trucks had congested Merak Port ahead of the Lebaran 2026 restrictions. The Banten Regional Police said Merak Port conditions had returned to normal. Public Relations Head of the Banten Regional Police Kombes Maruli Hutapea said on Friday, 6 March 2026, at 6:00 pm WIB that the traffic flow was relatively smooth. There were no longer trucks crowded at the port. ‘Traffic conditions from the Merak Toll Gate to the Merak Port area are smooth and under control. Vehicles can directly enter the Merak Port area without experiencing congestion,’ Maruli said. He also urged all crossing service users to comply with officers’ directions. ‘To all crossing service users, please always follow the instructions of field officers, maintain order, and ensure you have tickets before entering the port area,’ he added. Earlier, Banten Police Chief Inspector General Hengki asked Traffic Police to immediately enhance traffic management. This relates to an increase in vehicles heading to the port ahead of the operational vehicle restrictions to be implemented from 13 March to 29 March. Hengki asked traffic ranks to heighten readiness to anticipate an increase in logistics vehicles to the port. ‘Therefore, I request the traffic ranks to intensify traffic management and security in the port area,’ Hengki said.
