Traffic agency reports Rp 11.4m in riot losses
JAKARTA (JP): Sixteen traffic lights worth Rp 11.4 million (US$4,956) were destroyed in the weekend riots, according to the city land traffic control agency.
Agency head J.P. Sepang, said Monday night rioters also crushed a total of 36 bulbs.
He said that on Jl. Kramat Raya a total of five traffic lights were destroyed, on Jl. Proklamasi another five, two on Jl. Salemba Raya and one on Jl. Diponegoro. Other lights destroyed were on Jl. Kramat Raya, Jl. Kramat Bunder and Jl. Matraman.
Meanwhile, the head of the city park agency, Syamsir Alam, said that his office has identified public facilities which were damaged or destroyed in the chaos.
"The facilities are located on seven roads and my subordinates are still cleaning up the debris," he said yesterday.
He added the facilities are located on Jl. Penataran, Jl. Diponegoro, Jl. Kramat-Senen, Jl. Kwitang, Jl. Senen, Jl. Suprapto and Jl. Proklamasi.
He added that his office has not yet calculated the value of the losses.
Syamsir said 440 meters of fencing was destroyed. Other items ruined were 60 palm trees and 149 vases.
Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has said that the city administration will replace the facilities quickly and allocate all necessary funds accordingly. (yns)
