Traditional games

Traditional games

From Neraca

It is saddening that our children have lost the roots of their identity. They do not know their heroes and are not familiar with traditional games. This state of affairs has been acknowledged by a noted cultural scholar.

Dr. Endang Sri Hardiati said that Indonesian children in the last decade no longer knew traditional games in their daily lives. In fact, traditional games are very important for their growth, emotional satisfaction and happiness.

On the other hand, children are closely acquainted with sophisticated toys both imported and domestically produced. According to the scholar, as far as the educational process is concerned, traditional games are more beneficial than modern games. And history has proven that traditional games can help to develop children's potential, creativity, art and sports, and nurture their sense of cooperation as well as togetherness. Therefore, efforts must be made to revitalize the use of traditional games, which are readily available.

Our forefathers have bequeathed a number of traditional games such as hide and seek and making toy cars from pomeloes. We should not be ashamed to revive traditional cultural assets. There is no need to feel inferior or to be high minded.
