Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the harmonisation process for electronic trade regulations (PMSE) is ongoing and targeted for completion this week. “E-commerce harmonisation needs at least one more week. Harmonisation has only taken place a few times so far,” Budi said in Jakarta on Monday. He stated that his ministry would call sellers and e-commerce platforms to expedite the revision of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023 concerning PMSE. Budi is optimistic the revisions will be finalised swiftly, as they represent the government’s commitment to establishing a well-governed electronic trade ecosystem with sellers and platforms. He added that the new regulations will not only benefit e-commerce platforms but also the entire ecosystem involved in electronic trade, including sellers and consumers. “The e-commerce ecosystem must be robust, protecting sellers, platforms, and consumers alike. All three must be safeguarded. I’ll meet them tomorrow,” he said. The revision of Permendag 31/2023 includes a key change regarding platform fee transparency for sellers. The government also urges digital platforms to prioritise promoting domestic products, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Additionally, e-commerce platforms must provide a clear complaints service with a defined SLA to protect consumers and sellers in case of digital transaction issues. The government aims to create an equal relationship between sellers and platforms in the digital trade ecosystem while strengthening consumer protection.
