Trade Minister Monitors Staple Goods in Makassar's Traditional and Retail Markets
Makassar, South Sulawesi — Trade Minister Budi Santoso, accompanied by Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin, conducted a review and monitoring of staple prices and stocks in traditional and retail markets in Makassar ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH.
The visit to the traditional market was centred on Makassar’s largest market, Pasar Terong in the Bontoala district, on Wednesday. According to the minister, the aim was not only to monitor prices at trader level but also to ensure distribution and supply flows smoothly.
“The field observations show that trading activity is normal and markets are busy with visitors,” said Budi.
A number of commodities monitored include vegetables, red chilli, shallots, chicken, meat, eggs, rice, cooking oil, granulated sugar, and various other staple goods.
“We, the central government together with the provincial government and the city government, continue to synergise to ensure economic activity remains normal during Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr,” he said.
Prices of staple goods in several traditional markets in Makassar vary. For example, bird’s eye chilli was priced at Rp60,000 to Rp70,000 per kilogram.
Shallots remained relatively stable at around Rp40,000 per kilogram. Garlic was around Rp35,000 per kilogram.
Eggs were priced at Rp57,000 per tray, up to Rp60,000 per tray. Chicken meat sold at Rp35,000 to Rp38,000 per kilogram, depending on size and quality.
