Trade Minister Claims Staple Food Prices and Supply Stable Ahead of Eid
JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Trade Minister Budi Santoso has claimed that staple food prices remain stable ahead of Eid al-Fitr in 1447 Hijrah, whilst assuring that supply is secure despite increasing consumer purchases.
The minister made these statements after participating in a cleanliness drive at Kramat Jati Market and inspecting price levels and stock availability of essential goods at the marketplace on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
“We maintain online surveillance through SP2KP (Market and Essential Needs Monitoring System), which tracks prices across all of Indonesia at 550 market points covering approximately 514 regencies and municipalities. Alhamdulillah, staple food prices remain controlled, supplies are guaranteed, and prices are stable,” Santoso said at Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta.
He cited current chicken prices at the market at approximately 40,000 rupiah per kilogramme, whilst beef prices varied between 130,000-150,000 rupiah per kilogramme.
“The government will continue to guarantee that essential goods supplies remain assured ahead of Eid and that prices will remain stable. Should price increases occur, we will immediately coordinate with the Food Task Force,” he added.
The market cleanliness activity was also attended by Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, and personnel from the East Jakarta Municipal Government led by Mayor Munjirin. The initiative involved police, military, and municipal officials.
During the activity, Environment Minister Hanif was observed questioning traders about waste management systems at the market. He and Trade Minister Santoso were also seen collecting scattered rubbish from underneath traders’ tables and disposing of it in waste bags.
