Toys'R'Us opens here

JAKARTA (JP): The world-renowned children's toy shop Toys'R'Us will open a branch at the Lippo Supermal Karawaci, Tangerang, west of here on Wednesday, May 29.

"It will no longer be necessary for Jakartans to travel abroad to buy international-standard toys," Peter Darmawan, a shareholder in a local company involved in a partnership with the toy store chain, said.

The local company, PT Dwibras Darma, whose shareholders include tycoon Sudwikatmono, Brasali, James T. Riady and Darmawan, has been appointed by Toys'R'Us as its sole partner in Indonesia, the company's public relations executive, Umi P. Setyastuty, said yesterday.

PT Dwibras Darma provides all the investment, while Toys'R'Us provides managerial and technical aid, as well as training for employees, she said.

Lippo Supermal has reserved a 2,800 square meter space for Toys'R'Us, which offers at least 8,000 kinds of toys, Umi said.

Toys'R'Us will also open a second outlet at Pondok Indah Mall.

Toys'R'Us presently has 1,200 shops operating in 23 countries. (sur)
