Toyota's Export Commitment to the Middle East Remains Unchanged, but Logistics Hampered by War
Toyota Indonesia has confirmed that its export commitments to the Middle East markets are continuing as usual despite the warming geopolitical situation in the region. However, the delivery process to the Middle East is temporarily hampered due to disruptions in shipping routes.
President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), Nandi Julyanto, said that to date there has been no change in commitments with importers. Vehicle production continues normally in line with orders from export markets.
Our commitments with importers have not changed. The issue is the logistics are disrupted. At the moment we are producing normally, in line with orders, but shipping and the scheduling we are watching the situation.
As shipments are stalled, Toyota Indonesia is now preparing areas to house vehicles in a stockyard. Vehicles that have been produced are temporarily stored while waiting for shipping conditions to recover.
What we are producing cannot be shipped, so we’re stopping for now. But commitments have not changed.
The company also says it cannot yet confirm how long the shipment delays will last. At present, carrier ships are not operating to the region.
“We don’t know yet, because there are currently no ships heading there,” he said.
To anticipate this situation, TMMIN is studying the possibility of using alternative shipping routes. In the meantime, the delivery of components or spare parts continues via air freight channels.
