Toyota resumes RI production
TOKYO (Reuters): Toyota Motor Corp said its Indonesian car
plants resumed production yesterday.
The plants stopped output on May 14 due to riots in the
country.
PT Toyota-Astra Motor, owned 51 percent by conglomerate PT
Astra International and 49 percent by Toyota, resumed car
production at its plants in Karawang, West Java, and Sunter, a
Toyota spokesman said.
Production at the two plants, which have a total work force of
6,000, stood at 2,138 vehicles in April, one-third of the
previous year's output, he said.
Honda Motor Co Ltd is scheduled to resume production at its
motorcycle and engine plants in Indonesia yesterday, a Honda
spokesman said.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp suspended vehicle production at its
Indonesian unit in April due to a slump in the Southeast Asian
car market. It has not decided yet whether to resume output in
June, a Mitsubishi spokesman said.
Isuzu Motors has also not decided when it will resume output
at its Indonesian plant, an Isuzu spokesman said.
