Toyota Dominates 31 Percent of Indonesia's Car Market, Exports Reach 3.15 Million Units
Toyota continues to maintain its dominance in Indonesia’s automotive market with a market share of 31.2 percent throughout 2025, with wholesale sales exceeding 250,000 units.
“If converted into market share, it remains above 30 percent, meaning one in three cars in Indonesia in 2025 is still Toyota,” said Jap Ernando Demily, Director of Marketing at PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), in Jakarta on Friday evening (6 March).
With this achievement, Toyota reaffirmed its position as the national automotive market leader.
In addition to domestic sales, export performance also reached a brilliant milestone. From 1987 to 2025, Ernando said total exports of Toyota vehicles from Indonesia reached 3,151,000 units to around 100 countries.
Toyota is also entering a new phase with exports of electrified vehicles while increasing localisation of components for that technology.
The next phase is developing local manufacturing, not only assembly but also producing components domestically.
“In 1987, Indonesia began to be positioned as a Toyota vehicle export base, a role that has continued to evolve until now,” said Ernando.
On aftersales service, Toyota recorded high customer trust. The T-Care program offers free service and spare parts up to the seventh service or three years for new vehicles, encouraging almost 90 percent of customers to service at the official network.
Currently Toyota is supported by more than 360 official outlets and more than 1,000 part shops across Indonesia to ensure parts and various services are easily accessible to customers.
In Java, there are 210 official outlets in total, market share reaching 30.5 percent. In Kalimantan Toyota has 23 outlets, market share 36.3 percent, with Hilux being the most sought-after model due to the need for heavy-duty work vehicles.
In Eastern Indonesia such as Sulawesi (39 outlets), Toyota captured 40.4 percent market share, with the affordable Calya family car being the most favoured model.
In Bali and Nusa Tenggara total outlets are 16 with market share 32.6 percent, and in Papua total 10 outlets with market share 47.7 percent.
“Wherever Toyota is in Indonesia, we always adjust to the needs, habits, and conditions of the local community; we have differentiation in terms of the products offered or the form of aftersales. Across Indonesia, our market share achievement remains above 30 percent, and in some locations approaching 50 percent,” Ernando explained.
