Tourism Minister Welcomes Lunar New Year Celebrations and Parade in Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has welcomed the staging of celebrations and parades involving numerous micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as part of the Lunar New Year festivities in Jakarta.
"I would like to wish a Happy Lunar New Year to Chinese-Indonesian citizens celebrating Kongzili 2577. I think it is excellent that these events and parades are being held here and that they involve so many MSMEs," said Minister Widiyanti when met on the sidelines of the cultural parade for the Lunar New Year in Jakarta on Tuesday.
She said the involvement of various elements encourages more people to celebrate the Lunar New Year together.
She also conveyed her wishes in conjunction with the Lunar New Year, highlighting the cycle of the Year of the Fire Horse in the Chinese calendar for 2026, hoping that everyone may always find success and be granted prosperity, health and happiness.
In an earlier statement, the Tourism Minister assessed that the Lunar New Year holiday falling close to Ramadan in 2026 represents a strategic opportunity to increase the movement of both domestic and international tourists with longer durations of stay.
"The Ministry of Tourism views the momentum of the Lunar New Year holiday coinciding with the start of Ramadan as a strategic opportunity for tourist movements. We urge tourism industry operators to provide excellent service to tourists enjoying the 2026 Lunar New Year long weekend," said Widiyanti when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday (12 February).
As part of efforts to boost tourist movements, Widiyanti said the Ministry of Tourism is encouraging the public to travel domestically through the #DiIndonesiaAja (Only in Indonesia) campaign, whilst maintaining attention to the safety, comfort and sustainability of tourist destinations.
