Tour de Merapi 2004 on offer

YOGYAKARTA: Four regencies in Yogyakarta and Central Java are
offering a one-day motorcycle tour on Sept. 26, 2004 visiting
varied tourist destinations around Mount Merapi.

Head of Sleman administration's public relations Sudarningsih,
the event, called Tour de Merapi 2004, is jointly organized to
mark the World Tourism Day that falls on Sept. 27, and the 4th
Keraton Nusantara Festival (Festival of Palaces) to be held in
Yogyakarta this month.

The four regencies are Sleman, Magelang, Klaten and Boyolali.

To take part in the event, the second of its kind, people can
enroll for Rp 75,000 and they will get a jacket, a T-shirt,
snacks, bottled drinking water, accident insurance and a
guidebook.

A set of prizes have also been prepared for the winners of the
tour, including two motorcycles, two color TV sets, two VCD
players, two mobile phones, five fans, two mountain bikes, and
hundreds of door prizes.

The participants are judged by the accuracy of the
biking time, quiz's score, and riding etiquette on the trip.
The four best participants will each be given Rp
500,000 and a trophy from the four regents.

"We're expecting to have some 2,000 motorbikes, or
4,000 participants, for the tour," Sudarningsing said. --JP
