Total Lunar Eclipse on 3 March 2026 Visible Throughout Indonesia, Don't Miss It!
A total lunar eclipse will grace the sky on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. According to information from the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), this phenomenon occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned in a straight line, causing the Moon to be completely immersed in the umbra or core shadow of the Earth.
At its peak phase, the Moon will appear deep red, a phenomenon known as a blood moon.
BMKG states that the total lunar eclipse on 3 March 2026 will be visible from areas of Earth experiencing nighttime, particularly western North America, Australia, and the Pacific Ocean. However, the good news is that all regions of Indonesia will also be able to witness this phenomenon directly without optical aid, provided skies are clear. BMKG notes that the eclipse will be clearly visible across all time zones in Indonesia.
The following are the times of peak eclipse for each time zone in Indonesia:
The phenomenon will last for several hours, giving people an extended opportunity to observe it from beginning to end.
To maximise the experience of observing the lunar eclipse, the following tips can be followed:
Seek an area with an unobstructed view towards the east, where the Moon will rise.
The fewer city lights, the clearer the red colour on the Moon will appear.
Optical aids can reveal more detail on the lunar surface.
Use a tripod and telephoto lens to produce stable and sharp photographs.
Plan to follow all phases of the eclipse from beginning to end.
