Toraja Narcotics Unit Chief Allegedly Received Rp13 Million Weekly Payments from Drug Dealer
Investigators from the Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the South Sulawesi Regional Police are probing allegations that the Head of the Narcotics Unit at North Toraja Police, Adjunct Commissioner of Police (AKP) Arifan Efendi, received weekly tributes of Rp13 million from a methamphetamine dealer identified by the initials ET, alias O.
“An examination by Propam is currently under way,” said the Head of Public Relations at the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Commissioner of Police Didik Supranoto, on Sunday (22 February).
However, Didik declined to elaborate on whether the alleged Rp13 million weekly payments had been occurring since the previous year.
“The examination process is still ongoing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Didik confirmed that AKP Arifan Efendi has been detained in the Propam detention cells at the South Sulawesi Regional Police headquarters, along with the acting head of Unit II of the North Toraja Police Narcotics Unit, identified by the initial H.
“Yes, a special detention order has been carried out,” he said.
The case began when a man identified as ET, alias O, was arrested by personnel from the Tana Toraja Police whilst in possession of 100 grams of methamphetamine. During questioning, ET named members of the North Toraja Police as recipients of weekly payments of Rp13 million since September 2025.
“This will be investigated further, to determine the extent of involvement and the respective roles of each individual,” said the Head of the Propam Division at the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Zulham Efendy.
Zulham affirmed that his division would take firm action against any police officers found to be involved in drug trafficking.
“The bottom line is there is no place for rogue officers playing games, especially when it comes to narcotics,” he said.
