Top posts at KONI nearly filled

JAKARTA (JP): The electoral board of the National Sports Council (KONI) has almost completed drawing up the lineup of the new KONI leadership board, with just eight persons waiting for their deserved posts.

Outgoing KONI Secretary General Kahpi Suriadiredja told reporters after a meeting yesterday with his hot-favored predecessor Rudolf Warouw that the eight candidates had yet to give their nods to the posts offered to them.

The board of three was scheduled to report its proposed lineup to Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Hayono Isman yesterday, had it finished its job.

The national congress, held by KONI last month, set a Feb. 25 deadline for the board to complete picking up personnel for KONI's top jobs. The congress also stipulated that the number of the posts should be more than 15 but not more than 25.

The newly elected KONI chairman Gen. (ret) Wismoyo Arismunandar leads the board, which also comprises Warouw and Hendropriyono. Warouw was reportedly given the Secretary General post. Hendropriyono, who holds both the Indonesian Judo Association and the Indonesian Professional Boxing Commission, was named KONI Training and Development director.

Warouw refused to make any confirmation. "Please, don't force me to speak. I haven't formally taken office yet," Warouw was quoted by a KONI spokesman.

Kahpi said new faces would dominate the new KONI leadership board. "It is precisely in accordance with what the congress wishes to see," Kahpi said, a former National Marine commander who served his four-year term under former KONI president Surono's tenure.

A source close to Wismoyo said that the former Army Chief of Staff has already named those who held key positions during last month's congress his assistants. "Mohammad Sarengat is among the new KONI top officials," Nazaruddin Majid said. He failed to disclose the post given to the former Asian 100m sprint record holder.

Other figures include Sri Hastuti Mardiko from the Indonesian Gymnastics Association and Iwan Setiawan of the Badminton Association of Indonesia.

Majid had said earlier that Wismoyo will announce his staff no later than Feb. 22.

Wismoyo is scheduled to attend a fast break get-together with Surono on Monday, during which Wismoyo will informally report the results of his recruitment program. (amd)
