Toddler Stabbed to Death with Over 10 Stab Wounds in Bekasi; Uncle with Mental Health Condition Suspected
The Bekasi City Metropolitan Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit is probing a tragic murder case involving a toddler at a rented house in Jatirangga, Jatisampurna, Bekasi. The victim was found dead with multiple stab wounds on Wednesday (27 May).
Senior Police Commissioner Andi Muhammad Iqbal confirmed authorities are conducting a thorough investigation. Initial examinations revealed over 10 stab and slash wounds across the child’s body.
“The toddler had numerous wounds on the head, face, torso, and groin, including a severe slash on the cheek. We estimate more than 10 stab wounds,” Iqbal stated on Friday (29 May).
Police identified the suspect as the victim’s uncle, identified as G (18). However, G remains unable to be questioned as he is in critical condition in hospital following stab wounds to the chest and face.
Initial investigations revealed G has a history of mental health condition (ODGJ) and regularly consults a psychiatrist. The tragedy is believed to have been triggered by the suspect’s failure to take sedative medication for two days prior to the incident.
“The family stated the suspect stopped taking medication due to financial constraints, as they could not afford the prescribed drugs,” added Iqbal.
The incident first came to light after a social media post from @infobekasi showing the crime scene in RW 10, Jatirangga. At the time of the attack, the victim was with her grandmother, M (60), at the rented house, though the grandmother was reportedly away selling goods when the stabbing occurred.
Residents who arrived at the scene found the victim deceased, while the suspect G was discovered with severe neck injuries. Police are currently awaiting the suspect’s medical stability before proceeding with legal proceedings.
The case has drawn public attention to the oversight of mental health patients in communities, particularly among impoverished families struggling to access regular medication. (AK/I-1)
