Today, Two Former Subordinates of Nadiem to Be Sentenced in Chromebook Case Hearing
JAKARTA - Two defendants in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops will face a hearing for the reading of the verdict or demands on Thursday (30/4/2026). These two defendants are the Director of Primary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for 2020–2021, as well as the Budget User Representative (KPA) Sri Wahyuningsih, and the Director of Secondary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for 2020–2021, as well as KPA Mulyatsyah. “Next, the panel of judges will deliberate, and then read the decision as per our plan to be read on Thursday, 30 April 2026,” said the Chief Judge Purwanto S Abdullah during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (27/4/2026). Former technology consultant at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ibrahim Arief, still has to undergo rebuttal and duplication, while the hearing for former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim is still presenting witnesses and mitigating experts. The public prosecutor (JPU) has read the demands for three defendants in the Chromebook corruption case, namely former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, Mulyatsyah, and Sri Wahyuningsih. Ibrahim Arief is demanded with a 15-year prison sentence with a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary 190 days and paying restitution of Rp 16.9 billion subsidiary 7.5 years in prison. In the indictment, Ibrahim is not stated to have enriched himself, but jointly committed unlawful acts. In addition, Ibrahim also influenced ministry officials to choose Chromebook as the product to be procured. Meanwhile, the other two defendants, Sri and Mulyatsyah, are each demanded 6 years in prison with a fine of Rp 500 million subsidiary 120 days in prison. They are alleged to have pressured several commitment-making officials (PPK) to choose Chromebook as the product to be procured. Mulyatsyah is said to have received SGD 120,000 and USD 150,000, but he has returned Rp 500 million and some of the money he received has been distributed to several parties. Both Sri and Mulyatsyah were involved in creating several technical aspects to smooth the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops. The defendants are believed to have caused state losses of Rp 2.1 trillion, divided into two procurements, namely the Chromebook procurement worth Rp 1.5 trillion and the Chrome Device Management procurement worth Rp 621.3 billion. The defendants are threatened with Article 603 jo Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 jo Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
