REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Eid al-Fitr Syawalan 1447 H event, to be held by the DIY Regional Government on Monday (30/3/2026), serves as a remedy for the longing of Yogyakarta residents who wish to meet directly with the DIY Governor, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. After being cancelled last year, this syawalan tradition at the Kepatihan Complex is open to the public and is scheduled to run from 10:00 to 12:00 WIB. Tourists holidaying in Yogyakarta can also take the opportunity to meet, greet, and shake hands directly with Sultan HB X. Given the short duration, the public is urged to arrive early to ensure they can still shake hands directly, as enthusiasm for this annual tradition is expected to be high again as in previous years. “In principle, this is a moment for regional leaders to meet with the people and their relations,” stated the Secretary of the Region (Sekda) of DIY, Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti, on Saturday (28/3/2026). “It is open to the public, but we have limited the time because at 13:00 he has a courtesy agenda,” she said. Ni Made explained that this year’s syawalan features a changed concept. Whereas previously thousands of attendees were served with various buffet cuisines, the 2026 event brings a more down-to-earth atmosphere rich in local culture. However, she assured that this change does not diminish the essence of the silaturahmi (fellowship) event, but rather revitalises the small business ecosystem in Yogyakarta. The DIY Regional Government has decided to offer a variety of typical angkringan foods and drinks to the guests. “We will provide angkringan menus, with around 70 angkringan involved. We are engaging UMKM for the provision,” she said. The presence of 70 angkringan carts empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) is hoped to deliver direct economic impacts felt by the community, making the Eid al-Fitr moment not just a ceremonial celebration but also a socio-economic collaboration. “We are involving many UMKM. One angkringan will source its nasi kucing from one place, satay from another. This is not just from a single company catering,” she said. Meanwhile, the Coordinator of Public Relations for the DIY Regional Government’s Communication and Informatics Office, Ditya Nanaryo Aji, conveyed that attendees are requested to wear neat clothing, avoid flip-flops, and refrain from taking selfies or recording videos while shaking hands with the Sultan. The Regional Government’s Public Relations Team will provide photographers and share download links so that the public can still have documentation of the moment. The DIY Regional Government also ensures accessibility for all groups by providing special lanes and sloped facilities (ramps) for persons with disabilities to make the fellowship process more comfortable and prioritised. With the involvement of dozens of UMKM actors, said Ditya, this 2026 fellowship agenda is expected to become a momentum for state budget savings that aligns with efforts to strengthen the people’s economy. “This year we are organising a simpler fellowship in line with the directives of the governor and deputy governor, involving UMKM in the form of angkringan for the community,” he said.
