Metro Jaya Regional Police conducted a simultaneous corn-planting campaign in the first quarter of 2026 on a 50-hectare site in Cikarang Pusat, Bekasi Regency, as part of the drive to realise national food self-sufficiency.

The Q1 2026 corn-planting campaign was led directly by the Chief of Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, on Saturday 7 March 2026. The Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suhaeri, and Deputy Chief, Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono, accompanied by Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, led the corn planting at Kampung Tembong Gunung, Sukamahi Village, Cikarang Pusat District, Bekasi Regency.

In his address, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo said the nationwide corn-planting activity this quarter is being conducted across 36 regional police forces as part of Polri’s support for the national food-security programme.

‘Today the Chief of Police is leading the corn-planting activity for the first quarter, centred on the South Sumatra police region and followed by all regional police forces in Indonesia, as part of Polri’s support for national food security,’ he said.

He explained that in this quarter, the national target for corn planting exceeds 100,000 hectares. In 2025, Polri had succeeded in planting corn across 661,000 hectares out of a national target of 1 million hectares.

‘In 2026, the shortfall from the 1-million-hectare target will continue to be pursued. If the target is reached, national corn production could reach or even exceed 4 million tonnes,’ he added.

On that occasion, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo also praised the contribution of the Metro Jaya Regional Police for remaining committed to the programme despite land limitations. ‘Polda Metro Jaya continues to contribute through a range of innovations and cross-sector cooperation. It currently uses about 50 hectares for corn planting and will continue to be developed,’ he said.

In addition to corn planting, the land is also utilised for other crops to support the supply-chain ecosystem for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Polri has also partnered with various parties including plantation companies, PTPN, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through the social forestry programme, and the private sector to expand the planting area.

To strengthen the programme, Polri is also working with Bank Himbara to provide access to the People’s Small Business Credit (KUR) to farmer groups, and to provide financing support through Polri cooperatives to assist with seeds, fertilisers, and farming tools and machinery.
