To Prevent Floods, Pramono Urges Residents Not to Litter Indiscriminately
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has urged the public not to litter indiscriminately to prevent blockages in drainage channels or rivers in the capital, thereby reducing the risk of flooding.
“On this occasion, I truly hope that people do not litter when there has been no rain for two weeks. That ends up causing blockages in several places,” Pramono said in East Jakarta on Monday.
Blockages from rubbish, he continued, are a cause of flooding, even when rainfall is below 200 mm. Dredging in the rivers is being carried out massively at all points in Jakarta.
His side has also signed a cooperation agreement with Danantara for the construction of two Waste-to-Energy Power Plants (PLTSa) in the capital.
Not only that, Pramono also stated that the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facility in Rorotan is now operational. According to him, RDF is an important part of the integrated waste management system in the capital.
With the combination of PLTSa and RDF, he is optimistic that the waste problem, which has long been a major challenge, can be addressed more effectively.
“If all of that runs smoothly, then honestly, the waste problem in Jakarta will be resolved,” Pramono revealed.
