To Prevent Flooding, South Jakarta City Government Builds 30-Metre Infiltration Wells at Seskoal
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Administrative City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) is building infiltration wells with a depth of around 30 metres at the Student Complex of the Naval Staff and Command School (Seskoal) in Cipulir Ward, Kebayoran Lama Subdistrict, to prevent flooding.
“I am trying to identify flood problem points here. The plan is to build deep infiltration wells with a depth of around 30 metres; we may construct about 100 wells as a trial,” said South Jakarta Administrative Mayor Muhammad Anwar during a visit to the infiltration well construction site at the Student Complex of the Naval Staff and Command School (Seskoal) in South Jakarta on Tuesday.
The visit, he said, was in response to the Seskoal complex area that was inundated due to heavy rain on Monday afternoon (4/5).
He stated that the visit was conducted to identify the problem points that occurred, so that solutions could be found later.
“Hopefully, this step can prevent land subsidence, and we can see for ourselves that the ground surface here has started to subside,” Anwar remarked.
With the infiltration wells, he hopes that water can be controlled so that ponding no longer occurs.
“As I mentioned earlier, the target is 100 holes that will be worked on gradually. Later, we will involve Seskoal members. We will provide the machines and materials,” Anwar said.
Regarding the construction funding, he said it is estimated not to use the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD), but rather through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
As is known, the South Jakarta Administrative City Government targets 2,000 infiltration wells across all subdistricts to control water overflow from upstream areas.
