The Ministry of Transportation, through the Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, has urged returnees to maximise the work from anywhere (WFA) policy so they can work from any location. This is to enable returnees to schedule their return to Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), thereby reducing the peak density of the return flow predicted to occur on 24 March 2026. He stated that Jasa Marga had previously predicted that on 24 March 2026, around 285,000 returnee vehicles would return to Jabodetabek via toll roads. “We urge the public to utilise the WFA time provided so they can return on 25, 26, or 27 March,” said Aan, quoted on Tuesday, 24 March 2026. He noted that the WFA policy applies to those working in the government sector and state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and it is also encouraged for the private sector. “We hope private entrepreneurs will give flexibility to their employees to utilise WFA in scheduling their return,” he said. According to him, this requires collective attention given the high surge in vehicles during yesterday’s peak mudik flow. The aim is to provide comfort for road users and avoid massive vehicle build-ups on the roads. He mentioned that based on Jasa Marga data, as of 22 March 2026 at 14:00 WIB, 39.9 percent of vehicles had entered Jakarta out of a total projection of 3.4 million vehicles. This figure is calculated from four main toll gates: GT Cikupa, GT Ciawi, GT Cikatama, and GT Kalihurip Utama. “We also remind the public to make the best use of rest areas. Maximise the 30-minute time so they can alternate with others or use rest spots outside the toll roads,” said Aan. He also emphasised that returnees should not rest on the roadside as it is very dangerous, potentially causing traffic accidents and adding to congestion. “We hope all stakeholders and the public can work together to create a safe, secure, and comfortable return flow,” said Aan.
