To Meet Global Standards, KKP Tightens Supervision of Fishery Products
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Andi Artha Donny Oktopura, revealed that quality control and supervision of marine and fishery products continue to be implemented from upstream to downstream. This is one of the focuses of KKP to ensure that Indonesia’s commodity products meet global standards.
“We are currently pushing at the upstream level to produce commodities that meet global standards, starting from production systems such as aquaculture models. For example, in Waingapu, the market for shrimp is large, and in the northern coastal areas as well for several commodities where businesses can get involved; the state is promoting a new ecosystem that meets global market requirements,” Andi stated at the Food Summit 2026 event in the Bank Mega Auditorium, Jakarta, on Monday (27/4/2026).
Furthermore, Andi continued, KKP is also building integrated quality assurance from upstream to downstream by improving SOPs and harmonising with buyer or international standards. One example is the success in accelerating the resolution of the rather severe cesium issue.
As a result, the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has officially designated the Quality Agency of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) as a Certifying Entity (CE) for Indonesian shrimp products.
This designation is a form of recognition and full trust from the United States government towards the quality assurance system for Indonesian fishery products managed by KKP.
“Concrete evidence at this time is our success in fixing the rather severe cesium problem after conveying our quality assurance standards; we were appointed by the US FDA as an institution that can issue cesium-free certification,” he explained.
