Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Child Empowerment, Protection, and Population Control Department (PPAPP) has affirmed that cross-sector synergy is a major force in providing comfort and safety to children in the capital. “Child protection is a shared responsibility that requires the involvement of many parties. The government cannot work alone but must involve all elements of society,” said PPAPP Head Dwi Oktavia during an online seminar on child protection monitored in Jakarta on Wednesday. She reminded that children are the next generation and a valuable asset of Indonesia. Therefore, it is the responsibility of various parties to create a safe, comfortable, and child-friendly environment. Unfortunately, she continued, the reality on the ground shows that violence against children still occurs. In 2025, the Technical Implementation Unit for Women’s and Children’s Protection (UPT PPA) received 2,269 reports of violence against women and children. Of these cases, 1,266 involved children and took place at home. “This is very concerning, because the home should be one of the safest spaces for children, yet it can also become a space where children experience violence, mostly perpetrated by close relatives such as parents or other family members living in the same household,” Dwi explained. Therefore, she urged the public to jointly protect children in their immediate surroundings so they do not become victims of violence. Dwi stated that the DKI Provincial Government is committed to strengthening child protection efforts from threats and violence, one of which is through online seminar activities involving various community elements, including representatives from the Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat), Village Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), integrated community-based child protection cadres, and dasawisma cadres. “The information provided today is one of the efforts. It is hoped that this new insight can be passed on to the immediate environment, such as neighbours or joined communities and families,” Dwi revealed.
