To curb unemployment, UBSI Pontianak Campus strengthens BKK's role in the job market
Pontianak – The Pontianak City Labour Office (Disnaker) organised a Pembinaan Bursa Kerja Khusus (BKK) for SMK and higher education institutions across Pontianak on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. The activity, held in the Meeting Room of the Pontianak City Education and Culture Office, was attended by various educational institutions, including UBSI (Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika) Pontianak campus. UBSI, described as a Creative Digital Campus, participated in the event as part of its commitment to supporting the placement of graduates into the labour market. The BKK development is a strategic step to curb open unemployment while improving the quality of job placements in the region. Iwan Amriady Amran, head of the Pontianak City Labour Office, said open unemployment remained a challenge that needed to be tackled jointly. ‘Educational institutions that undertake placement and job-matching should form a BKK so that the process is structured and well-coordinated,’ he said in a statement released on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Fatmawati, head of the Working Training and Employment Placement Division of Disnaker Pontianak, presented the latest employment data. She cited that the labour force reached 3.08 million people in 2024 with an Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) of 4.82 per cent. While the figures show a positive trend, challenges such as the impact of digitalisation and the mismatch between graduates’ competencies and industry needs remain a concern. In the event, Esty Haryani from the West Kalimantan Provincial Education and Culture Office stressed the importance of transforming BKK to meet industry needs and strengthening partnerships with the business sector. UBSI Pontianak campus, represented by the Coordinator of BSI Career Center (BCC) Pontianak, Reza Maulana, emphasised that synergy between education, government, and industry is the key to improving graduate readiness. ‘BCC UBSI Pontianak campus is committed to developing career services and expanding industry networks so graduates are ready to compete in the job market,’ he said. Through ongoing collaboration, the role of BKK is expected to strengthen the employment placement ecosystem and reduce skill gaps in Pontianak City.
