To Address Angkot Stopping Arbitrarily, Pramono to Expand Mikrotrans-JakLingko Fleet
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing concrete steps to address congestion in the capital caused by city transport vehicles (angkot) stopping arbitrarily or ‘ngetem’.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the fleet of Mikrotrans and JakLingko will soon be expanded to make public transportation services more optimal and accessible to lower-income communities.
“So first, Mikrotrans, JakLingko and so on, of course, this fleet needs to be added,” Pramono said at Taman Ismail Marzuki on Wednesday (15/4).
This step is taken to improve the mobility system for residents while minimising the accumulation of angkot vehicles on various road stretches.
“We will soon prepare for the addition so that the transportation flow at the grassroots level runs better,” Pramono said.
The former Cabinet Secretary highlighted the habit of conventional transport vehicles frequently stopping haphazardly for long periods to pick up passengers.
According to him, this practice not only causes traffic jams but also risks leading to illegal levies in the field that harm many parties.
“Because if they stop too long, that’s what causes congestion, especially if there are illegal fees, all sorts of things. And that’s what we will improve,” Pramono stressed.
In response to concerns about economic conflicts between conventional transport drivers and the government’s transportation programmes, Pramono assured that the JakLingko management system operates transparently.
He convinced that governance in Jakarta has been running well and fully favours the convenience of residents.
“For Mikrotrans or JakLingko, it’s actually very transparent. No other region is like Jakarta in terms of transparent management, especially since it’s free,” Pramono said.
