TNI Soldier Detained After Going Viral for Alleged Methamphetamine Transaction in East Jakarta
An Indonesian Army soldier with the initials Koptu YP has been detained by Provost Puspalad. Koptu YP is the TNI member featured in a viral video allegedly conducting a drug transaction in the Berlan complex, Matraman, East Jakarta.
“The individual in question has been detained at his unit and is being processed in accordance with the applicable legal provisions within the TNI,” said Kadispenad Brigjen Donny Pramono to reporters on Thursday (26/3/2026).
Donny explained that the case of Koptu YP has been thoroughly investigated internally by TNI AD, specifically by Provost Puspalad. In further examinations, Donny stated that Koptu YP admitted to his actions of buying methamphetamine in Berlan.
Koptu YP has also undergone a urine test, with the results declared positive for drugs. TNI AD regrets Koptu YP’s actions as they do not reflect military conduct.
“Based on the initial examination results, Koptu YP admitted to purchasing and using drugs, reinforced by the individual’s urine test results which were positive,” Donny clarified.
Donny conveyed that Koptu YP’s actions in no way reflect the attitudes or values of military conduct that should be upheld. He assured that TNI AD strongly supports the eradication of drug abuse and will not tolerate soldiers caught violating rules, including those related to drugs.
“We also emphasise that TNI AD is fully committed to efforts to eradicate drugs and will not tolerate any form of violation committed by soldiers, especially those related to the misuse of narcotics, and every violation will be firmly addressed in accordance with the applicable rules,” Donny explained.
On the other hand, his side also thanked the public for participating in monitoring and paying attention to the compliance of TNI soldiers. He urged the public to be wise in receiving or disseminating information so that explanations can be provided directly.
“Finally, we thank you and also urge the public to be wise in responding to and disseminating information, by confirming it with the relevant institutions as much as possible first, so as not to cause wider misunderstandings in society,” he concluded.
