Jakarta — The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has transported 1,447 homebound travellers through a free journey home programme held from Kolinlamil Port in North Jakarta on Tuesday.

They are returning to their hometowns using the Indonesian Navy Warship (KRI) Banda Aceh-593, heading to two regions: Semarang and Surabaya.

Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali stated that this is the second time the service has provided free homebound travel to residents.

“This year we have two routes. A few days ago, we sent KRI Semarang departing from Jakarta to Bangka Belitung and there will be a return journey from Bangka Belitung back to Jakarta. Today, KRI Banda Aceh is heading to Semarang and Surabaya. There will also be a return journey from Surabaya to Semarang and back to Jakarta,” Ali said during a press conference at Kolinlamil, North Jakarta.

Beyond deploying warships, the TNI Navy also mobilised 10 buses to transport homebound travellers to regions in East Java and Central Java.

Ali added that this initiative underscores the TNI’s commitment to always being present to assist the public in all circumstances, including during the homecoming season.

With this assistance, Ali hopes residents can safely return to their hometowns and celebrate Eid in security.

Simultaneously, Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago expressed agreement with Ali’s sentiments.

“We wish to demonstrate through this effort that the government is deeply concerned about the challenges faced by the public,” said Djamari.
