TNI BAIS Deputy Commander Reveals Defendants' Evasive Responses Regarding Burns on Face in Acid Attack Case
The military prosecutor presented Colonel Inf Heri Heryadi, Deputy Commander of TNI BAIS, as a witness in the case of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Heri stated that the defendants were evasive when questioned about the cause of the burns on their faces and bodies.
This was conveyed by Heri while testifying at the Jakarta Military Court on Wednesday (6/5/2026). The four defendants in this case are Defendant I Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, Defendant II First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Defendant III Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and Defendant IV First Lieutenant Sami Lakka.
Initially, Heri said that Edi and Budhi did not attend the morning roll call but were at the TNI BAIS barracks due to illness. He mentioned that Edi and Budhi had received treatment.
Heri then checked the condition of Edi and Budhi, who had burns on their faces and hands. He said he asked about the cause of the injuries.
However, he said, Edi and Budhi were evasive. He noted that they initially claimed to have been splashed with hot water.
“After that, we tried to check their condition, asked the individuals involved, asked why and when, their answers were somewhat evasive. First, asked why, splashed with hot water. But there was something odd there, both of them were splashed with hot water at the same time,” Heri said.
Heri stated that Edi and Budhi initially did not admit that the injuries were from acid splashes during the attack on Andrie Yunus. Heri said Edi and Budhi only responded “ready, guilty.”
“Then, I asked more deeply, they just said ready guilty, ready guilty, finally we, I just left it. I ordered Captain Suyanto to continue the treatment, we returned to the office,” he said.
Heri said he requested further investigation into Edi and Budhi. The judge then probed the condition of Edi and Budhi’s injuries when Heri met them.
“What did you see on the bodies of Defendants I and II?” the judge asked.
“Visually, Defendant I from this side of the face, his face was charred,” Heri replied.
“Right or left face?” the judge asked.
“The entire face, permission,” Heri replied.
“What do you mean by charred?” the judge asked.
“It’s black like that, permission. We’ve experienced if it’s splashed with hot water, it usually blisters, this is charred,” Heri replied.
“About 80 percent?” the judge asked.
“Maybe around 80 percent, ready,” Heri replied.
Heri said Edi’s eyes and mouth were also black and charred. Heri said there were charred burn marks turning black on Budhi’s right hand.
“Besides the face, also the right hand and chest of Defendant I. For Defendant II, we only saw the hand,” Heri replied.
Prosecution
Previously, the prosecutor charged the four TNI personnel with throwing acid at KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The military prosecutor said the defendants carried out the act due to annoyance with Andrie.
The prosecution hearing was held at the East Jakarta Military Court on Wednesday (29/4). The four defendants are Defendant I Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko (ES), Defendant II First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi (BHW), Defendant III Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo (NDP), and Defendant IV First Lieutenant Sami Lakka (SL).
The prosecutor said the defendants learned of Andrie on 16 March 2025 when Andrie entered and interrupted a parliamentary meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law held by the DPR at the Fairmont Hotel, South Jakarta. The defendants viewed Andrie’s actions as insulting the TNI institution.
“With that incident, the defendants considered Brother Andrie Yunus to have insulted the TNI institution, even trampling on the TNI institution,” the prosecutor said while reading the indictment.
The prosecutor said Defendant I wanted to teach Andrie a lesson as a deterrent effect. Then, Defendant II suggested the idea of throwing rust remover liquid.
In short, the defendants sought information on Andrie Yunus’s activities. They divided tasks during the throwing incident.
The four soldiers are charged with violating Article 469 paragraph 1 subsidiary Article 468 paragraph 1 further subsidiary Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
