TNI Assures Garuda Contingent at UNIFIL Safe from Israeli Attacks on Lebanon
JAKARTA - The TNI Headquarters has assured that no members of the TNI’s Garuda Contingent (Konga) serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been harmed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
“To date, TNI personnel in the UNIFIL Lebanon mission area are in a safe condition,” said TNI Information Centre Chief Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah to Kompas.com on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
He emphasised that the Garuda Contingent continues to carry out its duties in the operational area in accordance with the United Nations mandate.
“In order to uphold Indonesia’s name and honour at the international level,” said Aulia, adding that “this is a concrete manifestation of the TNI’s commitment to contributing towards achieving world peace.”
The Indonesian government is monitoring the safety conditions of the Indonesian contingent in the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which is tasked with maintaining peace, as southern Lebanon is currently under Israeli attack.
“The safety and security of peacekeeping personnel is a top priority in the current situation,” said the Indonesian Foreign Ministry in a statement released on its official website on Monday, 15 March 2026.
“Indonesia hopes that the entire Garuda Contingent will be provided with safety in carrying out its duties,” the Foreign Ministry added.
Indonesia has strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Lebanon, describing them as violations of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).
Indonesia has called on all parties to respect Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, halt attacks that endanger civilians and civil infrastructure, and return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and achieve peace.
Lebanon has been drawn into an escalation of Middle Eastern conflict in recent days following Hezbollah’s attack on Israel in response to the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a combined US-Israeli strike on Tehran.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health has reported at least 826 people killed in the attacks, including 65 women and 106 children, whilst a further 2,009 people have been injured.
