TNI and Police Will Not Protect Members Involved in Subsidised LPG and Fuel Misuse Cases
JAKARTA - TNI and Polri have affirmed their commitment to not providing protection to their members if they are involved in cases of misuse of subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG.
Commander of the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom), Major General Yusri Nuryanto, stated that his side is ready to fully support law enforcement efforts carried out by the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), including in handling LPG mixing cases.
“TNI supports (law enforcement). We have synergised with Bareskrim, especially the Directorate of Specific Crimes (Dittipidter), to help resolve existing issues, particularly the misuse of subsidised BBM and LPG,” said Yusri in his statement on Monday (4/5/2026).
Yusri emphasised that TNI will not tolerate any soldiers involved in such illegal practices.
“If there are rogue elements involved, we will not tolerate it and are ready to assist in law enforcement,” he asserted.
The same sentiment was expressed by the Director of Specific Criminal Acts (Dirtipidter) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni.
He stressed that Polri will also take a firm stance against its members who are involved, whether as perpetrators or as parties providing protection.
“Any form of involvement, whether as perpetrators or as parties providing protection or backing, will be firmly addressed by us, with no tolerance,” said Irhamni.
This statement comes in the wake of the uncovering of a subsidised BBM and LPG misuse case in the Klaten region.
Police also seized a large amount of evidence, including 1,465 gas cylinders of various sizes.
The details include 435 empty 3-kilogram cylinders, 514 filled 3-kilogram cylinders, 262 empty 12-kilogram cylinders, 196 filled 12-kilogram cylinders, and 58 filled 50-kilogram cylinders.
In addition, six pick-up vehicles, three trolleys, two sitting scales, dozens of regulator hoses, and hundreds of gas cylinder seal caps were secured.
Currently, investigators are still developing the case to pursue other suspects believed to be involved and to uncover a broader network.
From the beginning of the year until 1 May 2026, Bareskrim Polri has handled 403 cases of subsidised BBM and LPG misuse, with a total of 517 suspects.
