Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) president director Nandi Julyanto says the company is still committed to exporting to importers despite the geopolitical conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States, which is beginning to impact automotive export logistics. Some vehicles that have already been produced are unable to be dispatched immediately because the carrier ships are not operating on certain routes.

“What we produce cannot be shipped, so we have to stop for now. But there is no change in commitment,” he said.

To prevent a backlog of units, Toyota is preparing additional storage areas for vehicles that are waiting to be shipped. “We have prepared a stockyard so far,” he added.

However, the company cannot yet estimate how long the shipping delays will last. “We don’t know yet, because there are no ships sailing there at the moment,” he said.

As a mitigation measure, Toyota is also studying the possibility of alternative shipping routes. “We are now studying new routes,” said Nandi.

While Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) marketing director Jap Ernando Demily said the geopolitical conflict has not yet had a direct impact on the domestic automotive market. “There is currently no impact. We are still monitoring developments,” Jap said.
