TKDN and SNI Become Keys to the Competitiveness of the National Electric Motorcycle Industry
The government, through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), continues to promote the strengthening of the national automotive industry, particularly electric motorcycles, to accelerate the formation of a globally competitive EV ecosystem. This step aligns with the strategic role of the non-oil and gas processing industry, which remains the main pillar of the national economy, from contributions to GDP, investment, exports, to employment absorption. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the government is committed to optimising the deepening of the automotive industry structure through various policies, including the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) and strengthening the electric vehicle ecosystem. He added that the development of two- and three-wheeled vehicles, especially electric-based ones, is a priority due to their broad impact on the economy. “The development of the two- and three-wheeled vehicle industry, especially electric vehicles, is a strategic priority because it has a large multiplier effect on investment, job creation, and national industrial independence,” said Agus. From the industry side, the performance of the two- and three-wheeled vehicle sector in Indonesia shows a positive trend. The number of manufacturers continues to increase with large production capacities, both for conventional and electric models. Stable domestic sales, export growth, and increasing adoption of electric vehicles are strong indicators of the sector’s prospects going forward. In fact, the population of electric motorcycles has surged in recent years, in line with growing public interest in efficient and environmentally friendly transportation modes. The government also emphasised that it will continue to monitor the growth of this sector to ensure it remains aligned with established policies, including the implementation of TKDN and Indonesian National Standards (SNI). “This step is important to ensure that the domestic industry becomes increasingly competitive, globally competitive, and able to provide optimal added value,” he continued. These efforts are also reflected in the specific working visit of the House of Representatives’ Commission VII to QJMotor Manufacture Indonesia in Cikarang, which became a momentum to strengthen synergy between the government, legislature, and industry players. In addition to reviewing investment readiness and production capacity, this visit also discussed the direction of national automotive industry development, including strengthening the domestic industry structure, increasing investment, and the sustainable implementation of TKDN and SNI. Chairman of Commission VII of the House of Representatives Saleh Partaonan Daulay emphasised that the implementation of TKDN is an important foundation in building a self-reliant national automotive industry. “We emphasise the importance of every investment in the manufacturing sector not only being market-oriented but also able to increase domestic added value through measured and gradual implementation of TKDN,” said Saleh.
