Task Force Chief for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in the Sumatra Region, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, continues to strengthen coordination with relevant ministries and agencies to expedite post-disaster recovery. These efforts are aimed at ensuring all parties carry out their respective duties and functions.

This commitment was reflected in a meeting on the progress of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction acceleration in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Jakarta.

The meeting, chaired by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, was also attended by relevant ministries and agencies.

One of the key issues discussed was ensuring the needs of communities residing in temporary shelters are met, including those constructed by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Danantara, and the Ministry of Public Works.

“Those in temporary shelters will be provided with communal kitchens, and their meals will be covered,” said Tito in a written statement on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

Tito explained that temporary shelters are provided for communities whose homes were severely damaged or lost due to flooding. These residents will stay in temporary shelters while awaiting the completion of permanent housing.

In addition to occupying temporary shelters, affected residents may also choose to stay with relatives or rent accommodation with compensation through the Housing Waiting Allowance.

Tito added that the government has prepared various assistance schemes for flood-affected communities across Sumatra, based on the level of housing damage.

He detailed that assistance comprises Rp15 million for minor damage repairs, Rp30 million for moderate damage, and Rp60 million for severely damaged or destroyed homes.

For severely damaged or destroyed homes specifically, the Rp60 million in assistance will be channelled through government-led construction, either at the original site or on relocation land.

Furthermore, the government is also preparing furniture assistance and economic stimulus packages for affected communities. Tito suggested that such assistance should not be limited to those with severely damaged homes but should also extend to those with moderate damage.

“As for those with minor damage, it will be left to the discretion of each regional government to assess whether the community needs furniture and economic stimulus assistance,” said Tito.

Beyond aid distribution, the forum also discussed the handling of wooden debris left by the floods still present in several affected areas.

Tito confirmed he had discussed related policies with Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni.

In addition to Pratikno, the forum was attended by Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, Deputy Minister of Forestry Rohmat Marzuki, BNPB Chief Suharyanto, Head of the Central Statistics Agency Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Deputy Governor of Aceh Fadhlullah, and other relevant officials.
